Biography

Gabriel Bernardello is Professor Emeritus of the National University of Córdoba (UNC), Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences and Corresponding Member of the Botanical Society of America. He was professor at the Faculty of Exact, Physical, and Natural Sciences (FCEFN) at the UNC and Senior researcher at National Research Council (CONICET). Bernardello has dedicated himself to botanical research and biology teaching.

He published more than 170 papers in scientific journals on aspects of biosystematics (with special reference to the Solanaceae family), reproductive biology, and cytogenetics of angiosperm plants. His pioneering studies in the region on floral nectar and studies on endemic plants of the Juan Fernández Islands (Chile) and the Canary Islands (Spain) are significant.

He was Secretary of Research and Graduate Studies, Director of the Master's Program in Education in Experimental Sciences and Technology and Vice Dean at the FCEFN, as well as Academic Secretary and Natural sciences Editor of the publishing house at the UNC. He also was Director of the Botanical Museum of Córdoba, Director of the Multidisciplinary Institute of Plant Biology, and President and Director of the Bulletin of the Argentine Botanical Society. He got the Bernardo Houssay Award from CONICET and the Lorenzo Parodi Award from the Argentine Botanical Society.
