Biography

Jaak Sikk (Estonia) is a pianist, improviser, and researcher whose work explores imagination, embodiment, and interaction in musical creation. He teaches at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he guides students in improvisation, open notation, and collaborative performance practices.

His artistic research focuses on the dynamic processes that emerge between performers, exploring how imaginative and teleodynamic systems can shape collective music-making. Sikk’s work bridges artistic practice, philosophical reflection, and pedagogy, seeking to cultivate creativity, empathy, and responsiveness in performance.

He has presented concerts, workshops, and research projects across Europe, including at international platforms such as EPARM and ISME. His performances often combine composed and improvised materials, highlighting listening, presence, and dialogue as central artistic values.

Recent collaborations include projects with musicians and composers from Estonia, Finland, Italy, and beyond, emphasizing cross-disciplinary and intercultural exchange.
