Biography

Marie‑Françoise Roy is a French mathematician and Professor Emeritus at the University of Rennes 1, known for her research in real algebraic geometry. She has played a leading role in advancing women’s participation in mathematics and science, co‑founding European Women in Mathematics and the French association Femmes et Mathématiques. She is Communication Officer for the Standing Committee for Gender Equality in Science (SCGES) and representative of SCGES through the International Mathematical Union (IMU). Roy has received honours including the Irène Joliot‑Curie Prize and an honorary doctorate for her scientific and advocacy work.
