Biography

Dr. Nattapon Panupinthu has been appointed Director of the National Laboratory Animal Center (NLAC), Mahidol University, effective February 1, 2026. He concurrently holds the position of Assistant Professor and formerly served as Head of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. Dr. Panupinthu earned his M.D. with first-class honours from the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand, his Ph.D. in Physiology from Western University, London, Ontario, Canada, and completed postdoctoral training at the Division of Cancer Medicine, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, United States. His research expertise encompasses the generation and utilization of transgenic animals for basic and translational medical research, with particular focus on calcium and bone metabolism, bone mechanotransduction, and systems physiology. Dr. Panupinthu has been instrumental in establishing Central Animal Facility, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University (MUSC-CAF) as an internationally recognized institution for the care and use of research animals in Thailand, serving as its former Director. Under his leadership, the program achieved AAALAC International accreditation in July 2018. He currently serves as Occupational Health and Safety Officer at MUSC-CAF, where he oversees health-related matters for staff and researchers at the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University.
