Biography

Dr. Nebosja Nakicenovic holds various academic degrees in economics, computer science, and engineering. He joined the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in 1973, working on long-term global energy aspects, on the restructuring of the global automotive industry, on the dynamics of technological and social change in the Institute’s Technology, Economy and Society Program, and as Leader of IIASA’s Environmentally Compatible Energy Strategies Project. He served as Director for Global Energy Perspectives at the World Energy Council (WEC) from 1993 to 1998. He was (Convening) Lead Author of several major IPCC Reports and Lead Author of the World Energy Assessment: Energy and the Challenge of Sustainability from 1999-2000. Currently, he is Leader of IIASA’s Transitions to New Technologies Program and Greenhouse Gas Initiative and Professor of Energy Economics at the Vienna, Austria, University of Technology.
