Paweł M. Rowiński is a professor of Earth Sciences at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences. Since September 1, 2023, he has been Director of the Institute, a role he also held from 2008 to 2015. In June 2024, he was elected President of the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities (ALLEA). He also serves on the Board of SAPEA – Science Advice for Policy by European Academies.

His research interests include mathematical methods in geophysics, environmental hydrodynamics, experimental studies of hydrological processes, and the impacts of climate change on water resources. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Springer book series GeoPlanet: Earth and Planetary Sciences and an Associate Editor for several leading scientific journals.

He is Chair of the European Division of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), having previously served as Vice Chair. From 2015 to 2022, he was Vice-President of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
