Biography

Pierre Corvol, professor emeritus at the Collège de France and director of the Collège de France from 2006 to 2012, is the president of the French Academy of Sciences.

Holder of the Chair of Experimental Medicine from 1989 to 2012, Professor Pierre Corvol  devoted his work to the demonstration of the hormonal mechanisms of blood pressure regulation.

His early work in molecular biology focused on the different components of the renin system and established the crucial role of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in controlling sodium-hydrous metabolism and renal and cardiac function by inhibiting or inactivating this system. in genetically modified animals.

His research has greatly contributed to understanding the regulation of blood pressure via the renin system and the development of treatments commonly used in high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases.
