Biography

Pinar Bilgin received her BA in International Relations from Middle East Technical University in 1993, her MA in International Relations from Bilkent University in 1995, her MSc in Strategic Studies from Aberystwyth University in 1996, and her Ph.D. in International Politics from Aberystwyth University in 2000. She is a professor of International Relations at Bilkent University. Professor Bilgin was a member of the Young Scientist Award program of TÜBA between 2008-2011 and became a full member of TÜBA in 2020. She has served on the various nomination and evaluation committees, was a member of the open course project in 2013-14 and is currently serving on the committee that is revising and updating TÜBA’s Dictionary of Social Science Scientific Terms. Professor Bilgin has also served in leadership positions in her own field of international relations, including the presidency of the Central and East European International Studies Association; steering committee member of the Standing Group of International Relations, ECPR;  and a founding governing board member of the European International Studies Association. In 2021, she was elected president of the the World International Studies Committee (WISC). Professor Bilgin has served on the academic committees of various conferences, assuming program chair roles multiple times. As one of the founding governing council members of the European International Studies Association, she helped set up a Europe-wide body that organizes annual conferences, workshops, mentoring workshops, and issues two journals.
