Salvatore Bushati
Biography
Bushati graduated as “Engineer Geophysicist” at the Faculty of Geology and Mines of Tirana Polytechnic University (1970-1974). Initially, he has worked at the Geophysical Enterprise of Geological Survey of Albania, with the responsibility of a geophysicist engineer. Has accomplished a series of post university outside the country, as at the “Pierre and Marie Curie” University and in many European countries. He has a rich scientific, professional and pedagogical career. In the beginning of his work, he was director of the scientific research team in the experimental studies on the possibility to use the geophysical methods in the search of the chromium mineral in Albania, by establishing theoretical and practical basis of the geophysical methodology, gravity and magnetic application of the studies and explorations of the chromium mineral.

These studies were used into numerous projects, discoveries and excavations of the ore body mineral reserves during the period 1974-1980. In 1981, he created and he was director of the Department of Geophysical and Geochemical Regional Research and undertook some studies of this nature that were completed for the first time in Albania. During 1995-1999, he was general director of the Geophysical, Geochemical and Environmental Research Centre (of the Albanian Geological Service), by strengthening and transforming it into a contemporary institution of research base earth studies as well as applicative research. He is author of several studies undertaken for the first time in Albania, as: contribution at the 1st International Symposium of BSEC Studies” (6-7 may, 2005); the Medal “For the Precious Collaboration” - from Italian Professors of the Institute of Research and Environmental Didactic” (Ireda, Naples- 21 April, 2011).  “Gravity Network of Albania” (1986); “Gravimetric Map of Albania” (1986); “Magnetic Network of Albania” (1996); “Magnetic Map of Albania” (1998) (as a contribution of Albania at the “Magnetic Map of Europe”, published in 1999 and later on renewed in 2011); etc; In 1999, on competition basis, he was employed at the Academy of Sciences of Albania (ASA) where he created and directed a new structure: “Unit of Research, Technological Development and Innovation Projects”; In 2002, he is appointed as the Scientific Secretary of the Section of Natural and Technical Sciences at ASA. In 2008, he was elected member of Assembly of ASA and won the title “Academics”. Later on, from the ASA Assembly, he was elected as the Scientific Secretary of ASA (2009-2013) and in 2014 as a Chairman of the Section of Natural and Technical Sciences, where he offered a precious contribution in this institution; In 2010, he was elected as a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Austria). During the activity at ASA, he directed and is collaborating in the realization of several projects in the framework of the national and international programs with partners of the Network of the Academy of Sciences of Europe (ALLEA), of the World (IAP and TWAS), of prestigious institutions in Italy (CNR), Italian University Network (CONISMA), eESA, etc., in the “Study of Shkodra Lake and Buna River”, in the “Designing of the International Center of Marine Sciences” (CISM), etc. In the framework of IPA Program, currently is working on the major project: “The hydro geological, hydrological and hydraulic study of Shkodra Lake in the water system of Drin River-Moraça-Shkodra Lake-Buna River”; He has a wide scientific activity; he is author of 29 books, monographs and textbooks; has more than 156 articles published inside and outside Albania; participant in more than 119 scientific activities; in 22 studies, 52 projects, in organization of 35 scientific events and other published activities, is active member of 27 international institutions and 28 in Albanian ones.
