Biography

Dr. Thomas Johansson is a nuclear physicist by training. He is a Professor of energy systems analysis and Director of the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at the University of Lund, Sweden, and a Senior Advisor on Energy and Climate Change to UNDP. He previously served as Director of UNDP’s Energy and Atmosphere Programme, and as a Member of the Editorial Board of the World Energy Assessment. He has published widely in the area of energy for sustainable development. Currently, he also International Chairman of the Working Group on Energy Strategies and Technologies of the China Council on International Cooperation for Environment and Development (CCICED), Chairman of the Board of the International Energy Initiative (IEI), and a Convening Lead Author of the IPCC’s Second Assessment Report.
