Wasim Sajjad
Assistant Professor NUMS Pakistan
Dr Wasim Sajjad is a microbiologist and biosecurity expert with a focus on antimicrobial resistance, biosafety, and responsible innovation in life sciences. He is currently a Fulbright Scholar and Honorary Associate at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (University of Wisconsin–Madison), where he is researching antimicrobial peptides.
In Pakistan, Dr Sajjad serves as Assistant Professor at the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), secretary Institutional Biosafety Committee, leads a research group working on quorum-sensing inhibition and AMR, and supports technology transfer initiatives related to vaccines and biologics. Over the past seven years, he has led the design of international capacity-building programs, including Pakistan’s first biorisk management curriculum in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories (USA), and a Master’s in Vaccinology programme for East Africa supported by the German Development Bank.
Dr Sajjad actively contributes to global science and security dialogues as a Youth for Biosecurity Fellow (UNODA, 2022), member of the Global Young Academy, participant in the Spirit of Asilomar’s Next Generation Leaders programme, and fellow of Health Security Partners. He has secured over PKR 8 million in funding, authored 25 peer-reviewed publications, and is an IFBA Certified Professional and Biosecurity Champion Fellow. Through the IAP Biosecurity Working Group, he is committed to advancing inclusive, practical approaches to dual-use governance and global biosecurity policy.
