Biography

I graduated with a doctorate degree from Claude Bernard University -Laennec Faculty of Medicine, Lyon 1, France, in 2006. I joined the Department of Medicine/Nephrology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for my research fellowship training. In 2010, and upon completing my fellowship training, I joined the Faculty of Medicine at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon as an assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Physiology. My research interest is to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of diabetes and its complications especially diabetic nephropathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy and diabetes induced cancer development. I am a member of many national and international associations; the American Society of Nephrology, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, The International Society of Nephrology, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes and the Lebanese Association for Advancement of Sciences. I am the recipient of many national and international awards and my research work is funded by many national and international foundations including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research and the Qatar National Research Foundation. I am also involved in teaching medical and graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine at the American University of Beirut (AUB). In addition to my academic affiliation I am actively involved in many social entrepreneurship activities including being a founding member and Director of EBDA3 (English translation = to excel in creativity). Ebda3 is a Lebanese non-profit organization that aims to promote scientific reasoning and sciences as a way of change in the Lebanese community.
