AASSA – NAS KR Workshop on 'Strategies for Building a Link Between Earthquake Science and Policies to Inform State Structures and Public to Reduce the Risks and Consequences of Earthquake'

The Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) and the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic (NAS KR) are jointly organising this workshop to be held 10-13 October 2017 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

AASSA and NAS KR are organising the workshop on 'Strategies for Building a Link Between Earthquake Science and Policies to Inform State Structures and Public to Reduce the Risks and Consequences of Earthquake' supported by the InterAcademy Partnership.

The objectives of the Workshop 10-13 October 2017 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan:

  1. To share scientific understanding of the seismic activity in Central Asia
  2. To communicate toward the general Central Asian public the scientific understanding of the seismic activity in Central Asia.
  3. To share existing technologies and policies to mitigate seismic hazard in Central Asia.  
  4. To discuss possible policies of how the government, seismic experts, safety specialists, media, medical experts, and the citizens could cooperate one another in order to protect the general public from seismic hazard.

The themes of the symposium will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Seismology: problems and reality
  2. Perceptions and policies of seismic hazard and risk
  3. Overcoming seismic hazard and risk
  4. Cultural heritage within seismic hazard areas: raising the level of awareness of state structures and the public

Call for abstracts:

Participants are requested to present one-page abstract and short bio in English (MS Word format, Times New Roman 12 pt). They should be submitted by e-mail (interdep_nas@mail.ru or elena7788@inbox.ru) no later than 14 June, 2017. (The original deadline 01 June has been extended)
