The informal webinar of the BWC Working Group Friends of the Chair is taking place on 25 April

The Friends of the Chair of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BWC), together with UNIDIR and UNODA, are organizing an informal webinar on a BWC scientific and technological advisory mechanism. This webinar will take place online on Zoom, on 25 April 2024 from 13.15 to 14.45 CEST. Check your time zone here and register here.

The event is intended to support ongoing activities of the BWC Working Group and to stimulate thinking and discussion around a mechanism during the intersessional period. The event will consist of an expert panel followed by a moderated question-and-answer session with the audience.


  • Ambassador Flávio Damico, Chair of the BWC Working Group – Opening Remarks.
  • Clarissa Rios Rojas, Political Affairs Officer (UNODA) – The role of scientific advice in multilateral disarmament.
  • Ljupčo Gjorgjinski, Senior Fellow with DiploFoundation – The evolution of discussion around an S&T advisory mechanism.
  • Ourania Kosti (TBD), Executive Director of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) – IAP proof of concept meeting on a BWC Scientific Advisory Body.
  • Peter Babigumira Ahabwe, Technical Advisor, Uganda Ministry of Health – Closing remarks and next steps.

The event will be moderated by James Revill, Head of WMD Programme, UNIDIR.

The event is open to state representatives and experts working on or interested in issues pertaining to scientific and technological review of the BWC.
