The Global Young Academy (GYA) has opened its call for new members for the 2027 cohort, inviting outstanding early- to mid-career researchers from around the world to apply by 15 September 2026 (18:00 UTC).
The GYA is seeking independent scholars who combine research excellence with a strong commitment to creating impact through science, policy, education or public engagement. Members serve a five-year term and contribute to an international network dedicated to advancing science for the benefit of society.
Founded in 2010, the Global Young Academy brings together 200 researchers from six continents representing a wide range of disciplines. Today, its members and alumni come from more than 100 countries. Beyond academic excellence, the GYA values diversity and encourages applications from researchers working across the natural, physical and social sciences, the arts and humanities, as well as those in government, industry and the non-governmental sector.
The Academy particularly welcomes applications from women and researchers from underrepresented groups, reflecting its commitment to building an inclusive global community of young scientific leaders.
Successful applicants will participate in the GYA's programmes and activities, contribute to international science policy and collaborate with National Young Academies and partners worldwide. New members are also expected to attend the 2027 Annual General Meeting, which will take place in Indonesia from 21–25 June 2027.
Applications close on 15 September 2026 (18:00 UTC).
