IAP announces new Co-Presidents

The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) is pleased to announce the selection of its new Co-Presidents, Margaret (Peggy) Hamburg and Stephanie Burton, following approval by the IAP Board on 28 January. Both bring strong continuity to the role through their longstanding service and leadership within IAP.

Dr Margaret (Peggy) Hamburg is an internationally recognised leader in public health and medicine and has served as Co-President of IAP and as a member of the IAP Board. She previously held senior leadership positions including Commissioner of the United States Food and Drug Administration and President and Chair of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Her career spans public service, science policy and global health.

Professor Stephanie Burton is Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Pretoria and a senior Professor at Future Africa. She has served as a Co-Chair on the IAP Board and has held senior leadership roles within the Academy of Science of South Africa and the Royal Society of South Africa. Her work focuses on research leadership, postgraduate education and capacity development, with active engagement in national and international science policy processes.

Together, the new Co-Presidents ensure continuity of leadership while bringing deep experience in science, policy and global collaboration to advance IAP’s mission.
