YPL Alumna Co‑Leads Global Science Talent Index Project

Health

The InterAcademy Partnership celebrates a major achievement by Young Physician Leaders (YPL) alumna Dr Antonia Morita Iswari Saktiawati of Universitas Gadjah Mada Indonesia. Dr Saktiawati has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Sasha Kagansky Interdisciplinary Grant together with co‑lead Daniel Schwab from the U.S. Department of Energy for their groundbreaking initiative the Global Science Talent Index (GSTI).

The GSTI will benchmark how national systems support early‑career researchers through policy investment and institutional practices. Combining policy scans quantitative indicators and lived experience surveys the project aims to produce actionable insights that help build inclusive science systems worldwide. The pilot phase will engage a diverse group of countries to test and refine this framework.

Dr Saktiawati is a clinician scientist whose research spans pulmonary disease immunology and infectious disease with a focus on tuberculosis. She has earned multiple scientific awards and holds medical and public health degrees from Universitas Gadjah Mada and University of New South Wales alongside a PhD from the University of Groningen.

Her leadership in both clinical research and science policy highlights the essential role of early‑career professionals in shaping equitable research environments globally.
