Amadou Hama Maiga

Professor Amadou Hama Maiga was born on 16 January 1956 in Mali. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Bamako (ENI), a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences and a PhD from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland (EPFL).
He has mote than 40 years of international career in higher education and research in water and environmental sciences and engineering, including 30 years at the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (2iE), where he successively held the position of Director of the Laboratory for Pollution Control and Water Treatment, Director of Research, Deputy Director General and Director General. Professor Maiga held also senior international positions including: - Chair of the Global Water Partnership West Africa: GWP-WA (2017-2021) - Member of the Board of Governors of the World Water Council: WWC (2012-2015) - Member of the Scientific Council of the Canadian Research Consortium on Climate Change Adaptation: OURANOS, (2008-2014) - Member of the Steering Committee of the African Water Association: AfWA, (2008-2016).
Professor Maiga published more than 70 SCI scientific articles, more than 200 scientific papers and has developed technological innovations for water supply. Professor Amadou Hama Maiga has been awarded distinctions including: - the 2009 Grand Prix of the Suez Environnement Foundation co-awarded with the Academy of Sciences of France, Paris, July 2009; - The highest distinction of the African Water Association: AfWA at its 20th Congress in Kampala in February 2020.
Since July 2016, Professor Maiga has been working as an International Consultant in Higher Education and research as well as Water & Sanitation Engineering expert and provides various supports to the higher education and research system in Mali.
