Anna-Karina Maier, Germany
Dr. Anna-Karina Maier graduated from University of Cologne and started her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Dueseldorf 2008.
She followed her scientific supervisor, Prof. Antonia Joussen, Director of the Department of Ophthalmology, to the CharitÈ in 2010.
Before, she had conducted research for her dissertation.Currently, Dr. Maier is in the fifth year of her residency and will complete her specialization in August 2013.
In addition to the standard curriculum of her residency, Dr.Maier is responsible for the consultation of corneal patients at Campus Virchow-Klinikum and cares for the cornea transplant waiting list and the recruiting of patients for cornea transplantation.
In April 2010 she was admitted to the ìFriedrich C. Luftî Clinical Scientist Pilot Programm at the CharitÈ.
The program grants protected time for research and offers additional training to enhance communication and leadership skills. Her research interests include corneal neovascularization and lymphangiogenesis as well as the improvement of corneal graft survival after transplantation.
Also, Dr. Maier teaches students in practice oriented courses, which are an integral part of the CharitÈís new Model Medicine Curriculum.
