Session 2: Climate Change and Health

08:50 – 10:20 AZ/15:50 – 17:20 UTC, Tuesday, 1 November 2022

Climate change adversely affects human health worldwide through multiple direct and indirect pathways. Responding to these effects requires connected strategies for mitigation (reducing greenhouse gas emissions) and adaptation (adjusting to what cannot be avoided). For the past two years, IAP and its regional networks have carried out a project that sought to collect knowledge on similarities and differences between and within regions for climate effects on health, and discuss options for adaptation and mitigation. In 2022, the reports for Africa, Asia and the Americas as well as the global synthesis report will be published. The general assembly presents a timely opportunity to present and discuss the results of the project with the IAP member academies.

Primary session organizer: Johanna Mogwitz, IAP/Leopoldina, Germany
